About
I am Senior Lecturer in Literature and Culture, Senior Teaching Fellow, and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Culture, Media and Society degree at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. I acquired my PhD from Cornell University, New York, in 2004. Since 2006, I have been working at Edinburgh Napier University.
My first monograph, Urban Gothic of the Second World War: Dark London was published by Palgrave Macmillan in April 2010; this book examines how writing in the Gothic mode subverts the dominant national narrative of the British home front, of heroic community in the face of the Blitz.
My second book is an edited collection Gothic Science Fiction 1980-2010 (Liverpool University Press, 2011), co-edited with Emily Alder. This collection examines a range of narrative media that combine the two modes, exploring genre, medical science, gender, biopower, capitalism, with Gothic science fiction texts understood as uniquely inflected for their time and place.
I also publish work on late twentieth-century science fiction and horror through a medical humanities lens, with a special interest in representations of organ harvesting and tissue economies.
